DGA Statement on Steve Gaynor Joining Arizona GOP Race for Governor
Today, Steve Gaynor announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor of Arizona.
Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement:
“Steve Gaynor is a wealthy opportunist who’s spent his entire political career putting shady political pursuits and power-grabs ahead of the needs of Arizonans, creating a sham nonprofit to influence redistricting in favor of the GOP. Gaynor’s previous attempt at holding public office was filled with racist, extremist dog whistles like supporting conversation therapy, and it’s clear that this one will be no different.
“As a businessman, Gaynor exploited his employees and was the subject of multiple lawsuits for underpaying and discriminating against workers. How can he be expected to stand up for working families in Arizona when he blatantly disrespects the constitutional rights of his own employees?
“The GOP primary for governor in Arizona is saturated with far-right extremists. Steve Gaynor is just the latest to hop in this race to the right and just like the rest of the candidates in the field, his ‘100 percent pro-Trump’ agenda is 100 percent wrong for Arizona.”
