DGA Statement on Senate Health Care Bill
DGA Chair Gov. Dan Malloy (D-CT) and DGA Vice Chair Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) released the following joint statement today on the Senate health care bill:
“The Senate bill released today is an even bigger disaster for states than the House bill,” said Malloy and Inslee. “This secret health care bill would slash Medicaid deeply and shift costs to states. This bill would mean higher premiums, worse coverage, and a fiscal nightmare for states. This bill cuts funding for opioid coverage, while our communities are ravaged by the opioid crisis. And it would mean that people with pre-existing conditions can no longer afford coverage, in order to pay for a tax cut for the wealthiest 1 percent.
“It’s no wonder 13 senators negotiated this secret bill in a back room without the input of any of America’s governors: This bill is a disaster. On behalf of Democratic governors and the 125 million Americans we serve, we urge the Senate to listen to governors and stop this harmful bill.”
