DGA Statement on SCOTUS Ruling on Texas Abortion Ban

The following is a statement from DGA Chair New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on the Supreme Court’s decision on the Texas abortion law:

“Today’s ruling by SCOTUS to continue to allow reproductive health care clinics to challenge Texas’ extreme abortion legislation may feel like a relief, but a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her body remains under attack like never before — and millions of Texans are still barred from making their own health care choices. 

“SCOTUS’ continued inaction on the constitutionality of this near-total abortion ban is paving the way for Republicans in state legislatures across the country to ram through their own severe restrictions on reproductive rights. To stop these attacks, it is absolutely essential that the battle to protect access to reproductive health care be fought at more than just the federal level. Now more than ever, it’s clear that the right for Americans to make their own health care decisions will be on the ballot in governor’s races next year. To protect the right for women to make their own decisions about when they become parents, we must continue to elect and reelect Democratic governors, who are leading the fight to protect and expand abortion access.”
