DGA Statement on Ron DeSantis Signing Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill

DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton released the following statement in response to Gov. Ron DeSantis signing the harmful ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill today:

“Instead of bringing people together and fixing problems, Ron DeSantis is bitterly dividing Floridians because he thinks it benefits his own personal politics. This vague and wide-ranging bill is a cynical attempt to disrupt classrooms by censoring schools and silencing students. It will make schools less safe for LGBTQ+ youth and Florida less welcoming for new businesses and workers. While DeSantis’ latest attack on education isn’t a surprise after he attempted to defund local school districts, it’s wrong and another major reason for voters to replace him with a new governor who will actually put Florida first.”
