DGA Statement on Rick Scott Pleading The Political Fifth In Tonight's Debate
WASHINGTON, DC—Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Colm O’Comartun tonight issued the following statement regarding Rick Scott pleading the political Fifth in tonight’s debate:
“For seven long minutes tonight, Rick Scott hid behind the stage rather than take responsibility for his record. It was the political equivalent of pleading the Fifth Amendment, but that should come as no surprise. Just like when he plead the Fifth 75 times in a case related to the historic fraud of taxpayers and seniors he oversaw as a private executive, Scott refused to answer for why he cut education by $1.3 billion dollars, cut Bright Futures scholarships in half, and raised property taxes to give massive tax breaks to corporations and special interests.
“Charlie Crist laid out a clear vision for the next four years. He’d raise the minimum wage, restore the Scott education cuts, and demand equal pay for equal work so that middle-class families can enjoy real economic security. Unfortunately, Rick Scott resorted to false attacks and the political Fifth, serving only to remind voters that they can never trust him to fight for them.”
