DGA Statement on Rich Stanek’s Entrance to Minnesota Governor’s Race

DGA Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement after former Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek announced his candidacy in the GOP primary for Minnesota governor:

“Rich Stanek is coming out of retirement to run for governor, but Minnesotans haven’t forgotten his documented history of poor judgment, racism, and hiding the truth. Even as his agenda failed the state, Stanek repeatedly praised Trump, saying he was ‘proud’ to work with him.

“Stanek’s entrance into the GOP field does nothing to solve Minnesota Republicans’ inability to nominate a candidate who can go toe-to-toe with Gov. Walz’s strong record of bridging divides to find solutions to the issues that matter most to Minnesotans. Gov. Walz has proposed a bold investment in public safety, lowering costs for Minnesotans, and has worked to create good-paying jobs and give every child a world-class education. 

“The DGA is proud to endorse Gov. Walz for reelection and stand with him as he continues to build a better Minnesota.”
