DGA Statement on Republican Primary in South Carolina
Today, Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson released the following statement regarding South Carolina GOP primary election results:
“Tonight Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate in South Carolina failed to secure the GOP nomination, and that means Republicans are in for two more weeks of this never-ending nasty primary,” said Pearson. “This is a major embarrassment for President Trump. And it’s a historic failure by Governor Henry McMaster, who became the first GOP governor in South Carolina history to be forced into a primary runoff.
“If you thought the last year was nasty, get ready for Henry McMaster and John Warren to launch an all-out personal assault on each other. While the fractured Republican Party fights amongst itself, Democrats are united behind James Smith and ready to win in November.”
