DGA Statement on Republican Primary in Oklahoma
Today, Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson released the following statement regarding Oklahoma GOP primary election results:
“Tonight Mick Cornett and Kevin Stitt failed to secure the GOP nomination, and that means Republicans are facing two more months of nasty campaigning and expensive party infighting,” said Pearson. “But regardless of who eventually secures the nomination, one thing will always be true: when Oklahoma’s schools needed help, the Republicans running for governor turned their backs on the teachers and students of the state. Stitt and Cornett have both repeatedly doubled-down on the Fallin-era policies that got Oklahoma into this mess in the first place. Oklahoma deserves a governor who will move the state past the Fallin era, and Mick Cornett and Kevin Stitt cannot be trusted to do so.
“Drew Edmondson is the only candidate left in the race who will support Oklahoma’s schools and bring transparency back to the statehouse. Regardless of who emerges from the costly GOP primary, Oklahomans who want change have a clear choice in Drew Edmondson.”
