DGA Statement on Rep. Andy Biggs Announcing His Interest in Running for AZ GOV

Today, Democratic Governors Association National Press Secretary Devon Cruz released the following statement after Rep. Andy Biggs filed a statement of interest to run for governor of Arizona, setting up a crowded and brutal primary for the GOP nomination:

“Andy Biggs has spent his time in Congress pushing toxic extremism, sowing chaos, and stoking division. His efforts to overturn the 2020 election, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and ban abortion and IVF nationwide is dangerous and wrong for Arizona. Jumping into a wide open field is sure to result in a nasty, expensive, and bruising primary that will force candidates to run far outside the mainstream – no matter how much it hurts everyday Arizonans.“In contrast, Gov. Katie Hobbs is focused on bringing Arizonans together to keep delivering real results that create good-paying jobs, make housing more affordable, secure the border and stand up for reproductive rights.”

Rep. Andy Biggs’ Toxic Extremism Would Drag Arizona Backward:

  • Just this month, Biggs introduced a new bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would eliminate affordable health care for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans, deny coverage for pre-existing coverage, and jack up the price of prescription drugs and other livesaving medicines.
  • Biggs co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, which would ban abortion and jeopardize IVF access nationwide, as well as other legislation to undermine women’s reproductive freedom and place the government in women’s exam rooms.
  • Biggs led the charge to overturn the 2020 election results and sow doubt in Arizona’s election system, which even resulted in two of his brothers denouncing his lies in The Arizona Republic.
