DGA Statement on Record-Breaking Number of Democratic Women Governors

It is now clear that there will be a historic number of women Democratic governors — breaking the current record of 10 women Democratic governors. DGA Women Governors Fund Chair Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey released the following statement:

“For too long, our country has not had enough women in executive leadership positions. Now, we are set to once again make history with a record number of Democratic women serving as governors – a monumental achievement that reflects the progress we’ve made and paves the way for new leaders dedicated to getting things done for their states.

“Democratic women governors are leading the way on the biggest issues facing American families – from expanding economic opportunity to protecting our fundamental freedoms. As Chair of the DGA’s Women Governors Fund, I’m proud to help grow our ranks and ensure women Democratic candidates can compete and win across the country. I look forward to working with this history-making class of Democratic women governors to continue delivering for the people we serve.”

Since it was established in 2018, the Women Governors Fund has been the only no-overhead fundraising account dedicated solely to electing women governors and has played a major role in making history across the country. The DGA has spent $120 million to elect and re-elect the current class of 10 Democratic women governors and made significant investments to elect our Democratic women nominees across the country.
