DGA Statement on President Trump’s First Joint Address of His Second Term
DGA Chair and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s first joint address to Congress of his second term:
“Less than two weeks ago, Democratic governors came to D.C. to meet with President Trump hoping to find a way to work together for the American people to bring costs down and improve their lives. Similar to how he showed no interest in solving our country’s problems then, we heard next to nothing tonight on how he will address the biggest issues hurting families. This is especially worrying as the administration is enacting 25 percent tariffs that will raise the cost on everything from groceries to cars to appliances to housing supplies on the American people.
“We still hope the new administration will step up and be a partner with us as we take on the challenges facing families like lowering costs, improving public education, creating jobs, expanding health care, and protecting freedoms. Until then, Democratic governors will keep doing our jobs: fighting for the people of our states and delivering for the American people.”
