DGA Statement On President Obama’s Galesburg Speech
WASHINGTON, DC—Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s speech in Galesburg, Illinois:
“In his speech today, President Obama laid out a clear vision for how we grow our economy and build on the tremendous progress we’ve made since the depths of the financial crisis. That vision is wisely based on the fundamental principle that our economy prospers most when its built on the foundation of a strong, vibrant middle class with access to good jobs, world-class schools, affordable housing, retirement security, and quality affordable healthcare.
“This is an approach that Democratic governors across the country are pursuing every day – and it’s showing real results. It’s now time for Republican governors and their Tea Party allies in Congress to put aside their ideological commitment to failed, top-down economic policies and work with President Obama to make his vision a reality. We will continue to partner with him to do just that.”
