DGA Statement on Oral Arguments in Abortion Medication Mifepristone SCOTUS Case

Today, the United States Supreme Court is set to start hearing arguments in FDA v. Alliance For Hippocratic Medicine, the case challenging access to the safe, commonly-prescribed abortion medication mifepristone. This is the first reproductive rights case before the Court since the overturning of abortion rights granted under Roe v. Wade in June 2022. DGA Chair Gov. Tim Walz released the following statement:

“Since June 2022, MAGA extremists have gone after abortion, IVF, and now doctor-recommended abortion medication that has been safely used for decades. They will not stop until they roll back all reproductive rights.

“As Democratic governors, we refuse to let that happen. We’ve taken real action to protect reproductive freedom – from stockpiling abortion medication in our states, to repealing harmful bans, to protecting patients and providers – and we will continue to do so, even as Republican governors and candidates attack freedom and take their states backwards.

“With abortion rights in the balance, this issue will remain top of mind for voters from now until November. No matter the outcome of this case, Democratic governors and candidates in critical battlegrounds will continue serving as stalwarts to protect reproductive freedom across the country.”
