DGA Statement on New RGA Chair Gov. Bill Lee

This week, the Republican Governors Association announced that their new chair will be Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, who is best known for completely banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. He has also denied health care to over 150,000 people by refusing to expand Medicaid and pushed for a plan to dismantle public education.

This comes as the “RGA will encourage GOP candidates to engage” on the issue of abortion rights, according to a report from NBC.

“RGA Chair Gov. Bill Lee’s dangerous record of completely banning abortion, denying health care to working people and attacking public education shows what is at stake in governor’s races across the country in 2024,” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “In contrast, Democratic governors continue to deliver on the biggest issues impacting Americans like lifting up the middle class, fixing infrastructure and improving public education, while also standing up for our fundamental freedoms.”
