DGA Statement on New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart Running for Connecticut GOV

Today, Democratic Governors Association Communications Director Sam Newton released the following statement after New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart filed paperwork to signal she is interested in seeking the GOP nomination for governor in Connecticut:

“Since taking office, Gov. Ned Lamont has delivered strong, results-oriented leadership that is making life in Connecticut better and more affordable. He’s managed a fiscal turnaround that’s produced balanced budgets, tax cuts for middle class families and seniors, secured new business investments in the state and made major investments in our public schools – all while standing firm in the face of attacks on reproductive rights and Connecticut values. That’s why Gov. Lamont is one of the most popular governors in the country, and exactly the kind of leadership Connecticut will want to stick with no matter who enters the race.”

After turning around the state’s fiscal situation and balancing the budget, Gov. Ned Lamont has delivered major wins for the people of Connecticut: 

  • Gov. Lamont signed the largest income tax cut in state history, that was specifically designed to help the state’s working families and seniors the most.
  • Gov. Lamont signed legislation to make child care options more affordable and accessible for working families.
  • Gov. Lamont has worked to deliver historic levels of funding to public schools, proposing some of the largest investments ever made for Connecticut’s K-12 schools and early childhood education providers.
