DGA Statement on Mississippi Gubernatorial Primary Results
Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper released the following statement in response to Mississippi’s primary election for governor:
“Congratulations to Brandon Presley on his victory in Mississippi’s Democratic primary election tonight. The son of a single mother who overcame unspeakable personal tragedy to serve his hometown as mayor and represent North Mississippi on the state’s Public Service Commission, Brandon has dedicated his career to delivering for Mississippi’s most forgotten communities. He understands what Mississippians are going through, and unlike Gov. Tate Reeves, he will never stop fighting for hardworking Mississippi families. “
By contrast, Gov. Reeves enters this general election deeply unpopular and shedding support even from his own party after failing Mississippians at every turn — from his refusal to expand Medicaid that has put a third of the state’s rural hospitals at risk of closure, to his failure to cut the highest grocery tax in the country, to his role at the center of the largest public corruption in Mississippi history. Mississippians deserve better, and the DGA is excited to continue to support Brandon in this campaign, as he builds a strong coalition across party lines to defeat Gov. Reeves.
“In other words — let’s go, Brandon!”
