DGA Statement on Mike Michaud’s Nomination for Governor of Maine
Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, tonight issued the following statement regarding Mike Michaud’s nomination for governor of Maine:
“On behalf of all of our Democratic governors, I’d like to congratulate Mike Michaud on formally becoming the Democratic nominee for governor of Maine. Mike has a proven track record of bringing people together to deliver results for the middle class. As Governor, he’ll work across the aisle to make college more affordable, invest in public education and workforce training, bring jobs back to Maine, and expand access to quality affordable healthcare. After suffering under the last three and a half years of Governor LePage’s divisiveness and failed policies, that’s precisely what Mainers are clamoring for.
“Unfortunately for the people of his state, Governor LePage’s absurd antics, insults, and recklessness have become a distraction and embarrassment. What’s worse is that LePage has proven unable to work with the legislature to get things done, vetoing a record 182 pieces of legislation. Because of his right-wing agenda that does nothing to strengthen the middle class or expand economic opportunity, Maine is falling behind. For all of those reasons, defeating Governor LePage and electing Mike Michaud— a governor Mainers can finally be proud of—is a top priority of the DGA.”
