DGA Communications Director Sam Newton released the following statement in response to Mike Cox announcing his run for governor in Michigan:
“Mike Cox is an out-of-touch extremist who already ran and lost for governor 15 years ago. His announcement today only ramps up this messy, far-right and growing GOP primary that already includes John James and Aric Nesbitt. Just like the other Republican candidates, Cox’s disastrous record includes attacking public education, opposing expanding health care to hundreds of thousands of Michiganders, and standing shoulder to shoulder with far-right anti-abortion groups. His harmful agenda, which voters rejected the last time he ran for governor, will only make life worse for Michiganders. We look forward to holding him and the rest of this crowded GOP field accountable.”
