DGA Statement on Michelle Benson’s Entrance to Minnesota Republican Gubernatorial Primary Race to the Right

DGA Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement after Republican state Senator Michelle Benson’s entrance into the Republican gubernatorial primary:

“Michelle Benson has spent her political career pushing policies that hurt Minnesota families. Benson has repeatedly tried to rip health care away from Minnesotans, opposing the Affordable Care Act, blocking legislation that would help those struggling with the sky-high costs of insulin, and championing a proposal to take coverage away from hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans.

“Benson is a member of the  far-right wing of the Republican base. She backed anti-LGBTQ measures, rejected efforts to reduce hate crimes, and through the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, spread misinformation about critical vaccines and testing.

“Gov. Tim Walz is a proven leader for Minnesota. He has led efforts to expand health care, protect LGBTQ+ youth, and fund public education. As the state emerges from the pandemic, Walz is leading the push to get Minnesota on the road to recovery, ensuring no families are left behind in the process. We look forward to working with Gov. Walz during his second term as he continues to fight for Minnesota.”
