DGA Statement on Karrin Taylor Robson Announcing Her Campaign for AZ GOV

Today, Democratic Governors Association National Press Secretary Devon Cruz released the following statement after Karrin Taylor Robson officially announced her run for governor, setting up a race to the far-right for the GOP nomination:

“Karrin Taylor Robson isn’t letting her past loss — or the loud boos she got at the Arizona GOP convention — keep her out of what will be a nasty, expensive primary. In addition to the baggage she brings to this race from her losing record, Taylor Robson will also have to explain why she refused to say if she believes the 2020 election was stolen, backs extreme abortion restrictions that would criminalize doctors, and wants to defund Arizona’s public schools — all while spending the next eighteen months trying to stake out the most extreme far-right territory possible to make it through her primary.

“While Arizona Republicans are focused on attacking each other and proving their extremist bona fides, Gov. Katie Hobbs will continue delivering on the issues Arizonans care about most, such as securing the border and improving public safety, lowering costs, creating good-paying jobs, building affordable housing, and standing up for fundamental freedoms.”

Arizonans Don’t Want Karrin Taylor Robson’s Brand of Dangerous Extremism:

  • In 2022, Karrin Taylor Robson refused to state whether she would have certified the results of Arizona’s 2020 election, and spread Big Lie conspiracy theories, sowing doubt in the state’s election system.
  • During her failed campaign, Taylor Robson committed to enforcing Arizona’s pre-Roe abortion ban that would “prohibit the procedure in nearly all cases and would criminalize doctors who perform it,” and believes that abortion medication should not be legal in Arizona.
  • Taylor Robson supports a costly ESA program that has blown up Arizona’s budget, and is in favor of “really squeezing” money out of the state’s public school system.
  • Despite not attending the state GOP convention in January, the mere mention of Karrin Taylor Robson’s name resulted in “a loud chorus of boos,” even as an independent expenditure spent money to run mobile billboard ads around the event, while Rep. Andy Biggs was greeted with “thunderous applause.”
