DGA Statement on Jason Carter’s Nomination for Governor of Georgia

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, tonight issued the following statement regarding Jason Carter’s nomination for governor of Georgia:
“I’d like like to congratulate Jason Carter on securing the Democratic nomination for governor of Georgia.  Jason is a fiscal conservative and bipartisan problem solver who has worked across the aisle to strengthen Georgia’s ethics laws, restore the deep cuts Governor Deal made to education, and to invest in tax credits for small businesses that create jobs. As Governor, he will ensure the economy works for the middle class and small businesses, and fight every day to protect investments in public education.
“In Congress and the statehouse, Governor Deal’s career has been defined by his unethical conduct in public office. To make matters worse, as governor, he cut a billion dollars from schools and universities, resulting in teacher layoffs and larger class sizes and leaving Georgia students less prepared for the jobs of the future. And he did it all to give new tax breaks to big, out-of-state corporations. For all of those reasons, voters will punish him in November.”
