DGA Statement on Janet Mills’ Maine Primary Win

Latest News

DGA Chair Gov. Jay Inslee (WA) and Vice Chair Gov. Gina Raimondo (RI) issued the following statements on Janet Mills winning the Democratic nomination for Governor of Maine:
“I congratulate Attorney General Janet Mills on her historic nomination for Governor of Maine,” said Gov. Inslee. “From combatting the opioid crisis to helping Mainers stay in their homes during the Great Recession, Janet has spent her career fighting on behalf of Maine’s hardworking families. After eight years of mismanagement under Governor LePage, Maine needs a new type of leader like Janet Mills–not more of the same failed LePage agenda under Shawn Moody. Maine is one of the DGA’s top pickup opportunities in 2018, and we look forward to working with Janet to win back the state.”
“Congratulations to Maine’s next Governor, Janet Mills on her historic nomination,” said Gov. Raimondo. “Janet was the first woman to serve as Maine’s Attorney General, and now she has another opportunity to make history as Maine’s first female Governor. Janet has the right experience, priorities, and ability to bring people together to solve problems that will make her a great leader for the state of Maine. As a fellow New England Governor and one of too few women to hold that role nationwide, I look forward to welcoming Janet and other women governors to our ranks next year.”
The DGA has targeted Maine as one of 8 initial targets for its Unrig The Map project, a zero-overhead fund to win targeted gubernatorial races that are key to 2021 redistricting.
