DGA Statement on James Craig’s Entrance Into Michigan GOP Primary
Less than 48 hours after the former Michigan GOP executive director filed a complaint against James Craig for shadily hiring insiders for his campaign without filing the legal paperwork, Craig announced a sham “exploratory committee,” which is a distinction that does not exist under Michigan law, in an attempt to enter the crowded Republican gubernatorial primary without having to answer tough questions.
Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement:
“After spending months huddling with political insiders and posing for cameras, James Craig is finally joining the crowded and nasty Republican primary with no answers and no plans to grow the economy, improve public education, or fix Michigan’s roads. His only priority so far is saying there should be even more guns on the street in Detroit. And just like a typical politician, Craig praised Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s life-saving leadership before he was against her.
“But we can’t blame him — Gov. Whitmer is tough, resilient, and always puts Michigan first. She worked with Michigan’s auto companies to create 11,000 new jobs, made historic investments in public education without raising taxes, and is taking on the long work of fixing Michigan’s roads and bridges.
“While Craig dodges questions and faces a brutal Republican primary, Gov. Whitmer gets results for Michigan families, and we look forward to helping her win re-election next year.”
