DGA Statement on Greg Abbott’s Reelection Announcement
Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement on Greg Abbott’s announcement he is running for reelection for governor of Texas:
“After using the governorship to build his status as a national conservative kingpin, Greg Abbott is delusional if he thinks his reelection will be smooth sailing. Even before he makes it to the general election, he’ll have to make it through a muddy primary challenge.
“Over the past year, Texans have watched Abbott play politics with their lives. He threatens schools and local leaders trying to implement public safety measures, while under his watch, more children have been hospitalized for COVID than in any other state; He ran away to Fox News while the deadly electric grid failure in 2021 left millions of families in crisis, and he uses rural towns and border communities as photo ops instead of investing in their needs.
“Texans are sick and tired of Greg Abbott and his countless leadership failures that have left Texas families, small businesses, and the state’s economy reeling. The DGA looks forward to holding Greg Abbott accountable for the damage he’s caused and ending his long string of completely preventable disasters.”
