DGA Statement on Greg Abbott Winning the Texas GOP Primary for Governor
DGA Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement on Greg Abbott winning the GOP primary for governor of Texas:
“Gov. Greg Abbott has used his governorship to neglect Texans and boost his national political ambitions. It’s no surprise that Abbott faced primary challengers from within his own party — despite his desperate attempts to appease the far-right, he’s failed to unite the Texas Republican base and is bruised heading into the general election.
“Abbott’s reckless and out-of-touch policies have put countless Texans’ lives at risk. His anti-science approach to COVID led to skyrocketing hospitalizations of children, and when the 2021 power grid failure left millions of families in the cold, he disappeared to spew talking points on Fox News. Instead of working to prevent these disasters, Abbott is focused on building his profile as a far-right conservative by attacking women and transgender children.
“Texans deserve a leader who will push past Abbott’s small and divisive politics. We look forward to supporting Beto O’Rourke in his campaign to serve all the people of Texas by fixing the power grid, funding a world-class education system, and expanding access to affordable health care.”
