DGA Statement on Governor Roy Cooper’s Victory in North Carolina

Democratic Governors Association Chair New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy released the following statement on Governor Roy Cooper’s victory in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race:

“Congratulations to Governor Roy Cooper on a decisive victory in North Carolina. Governor Cooper has been a steadfast leader during the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of North Carolinians has earned him a second term. With this victory, the people of North Carolina have spoken, and they stand with Governor Cooper in support of Medicaid expansion and finally raising teacher pay.

“This victory for decency, health care access, and strong leadership is also a repudiation of the divisive and angry politics that defined Dan Forest’s campaign. Tonight, North Carolinians rejected a man who has sought to inflame tensions and put politics above the lives of people he was meant to represent. I look forward to continuing to serve alongside Governor Roy Cooper, who has shown an unwavering commitment to the people of North Carolina in the face of unprecedented challenges.”
