DGA Statement on Governor Katie Hobbs’ Victory in Arizona

DGA Statement on Governor Katie Hobbs’ Victory in Arizona

DGA Chair Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear released the following statement on Gov. Katie Hobbs being re-elected in Arizona:

“Congratulations to Governor Katie Hobbs on being re-elected governor of Arizona. In her first term, Governor Hobbs worked with both parties to tackle big problems other politicians have ignored for years — including creating jobs, expanding free school lunches, cutting taxes for the middle class, securing the border, passing historic water protections, and repealing the state’s archaic 1864 abortion ban. Governor Hobbs is the only social worker ever elected governor, and she has never forgotten what it’s like to come from a working-class family, and it’s clear in how she fights for Arizonans every day. The DGA looks forward to working with her as she continues to always put Arizona first and help working families get ahead in her second term.”

Governor Hobbs is the first Democrat to win re-election for governor of Arizona in 20 years. Arizona is a state where Republicans have a 9-point registration advantage. It is also the swing state that Donald Trump won by the largest margin of victory in 2024. As a result, nonpartisan analysts consistently called Governor Hobbs the most vulnerable incumbent governor in the entire country. The DGA invested $23 million to help Governor Hobbs start paid communications early. Those funds helped her make a historic $6 million investment in Latino voter outreach.
