DGA Statement on Governor Henry McMaster’s Slow Response to Trump’s Offshore Drilling Plan
Today, Governor Henry McMaster finally requested a meeting with the Trump Administration regarding their plan to drill off the coast of South Carolina. McMaster, who claims to have a close relationship with President Trump, waited days to request a meeting about the proposed drilling, which was first announced last Thursday.
“After days of silence and inaction, Governor McMaster finally woke up to the threat of Trump’s offshore drilling plan,” said DGA Deputy Press Secretary Alex Japko. “Instead of proactively taking steps to stand up for his state, McMaster was caught flat-footed. South Carolina voters deserve to know why Florida got a carveout and not South Carolina. South Carolina families have very little to show for Governor McMaster’s unquestioning loyalty to President Trump.”
