DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill’s Victory in New Jersey

Tonight, DGA Chair Kansas Governor Laura Kelly released the following statement on Mikie Sherrill being elected the next governor of New Jersey:

“Congratulations to Mikie Sherrill on being elected the next governor of New Jersey. In addition to her record of serving our country, Mikie earned the trust of voters by running an aggressive campaign on her plans to cut energy costs, lower the cost of health care, make government more responsive and accountable, and protect New Jersey from the chaos of the Trump administration.

“It’s been 60 years since Democrats have won three consecutive races for governor in New Jersey, and Mikie’s historic win is a roadmap for how Democrats can overcome precedent and win in deeply competitive races when we stay laser-focused on our positive vision to address the biggest issues impacting families in their daily lives.

“The DGA is proud of the record-breaking and unprecedented early investment we made in this race and we look forward to working with Governor-elect Sherrill as she makes life better for the people of New Jersey.”

As national Republicans spent $25 million, and President Trump and MAGA’s biggest online stars went all-in on flipping New Jersey this year, the DGA-backed group Greater Garden State spent over $30 million to ensure tonight’s victory for Mikie Sherrill. That included an early $20 million reservation, which gave Democrats a strategic advantage. By backing Greater Garden State, the DGA was proud to be the largest outside spender in what is now the most expensive race for governor in the history of New Jersey.
