DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Hannah Pingree’s Victory in Maine
DGA Chair Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear released the following statement on Hannah Pingree being elected the next governor of the state of Maine:
“Congratulations to Hannah Pingree on being elected the next governor of Maine. A lifelong Mainer, mom, and the youngest House Speaker in state history, Hannah has dedicated her career to serving the people of her state. She ran a positive, uplifting campaign focused on uniting Mainers to build a forward-looking vision for the future. She will be a governor guided by a clear north star: make a difference in Mainers’ lives by making it easier to buy a home and afford health care. Maine is lucky to have such a dedicated and effective public servant as their next chief executive, and the DGA is proud to have helped elect Governor-elect Pingree this year.”
Governor-elect Pingree’s victory is the first time any party has won three consecutive terms in Maine since 1952. The DGA-backed entity Pine Tree State Prosperity invested $3 million in the Maine governor’s race on ads (examples here and here) to help ensure that Hannah Pingree won in a three-way race with an independent candidate who aggressively courted Democratic voters – and amidst a highly competitive and volatile U.S. Senate race.
