DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger’s Victory in Virginia
DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger’s Victory in Virginia
Tonight, DGA Chair Kansas Governor Laura Kelly released the following statement on Abigail Spanberger being elected the next governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia:
“Congratulations to Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger on her decisive victory tonight and for making history as the first woman ever elected governor in Virginia. Abigail won by building support from voters across party lines because she stayed relentlessly focused on her positive plans to lower costs and her commitment to putting service ahead of politics.
“Tonight’s results are also a resounding rejection of Donald Trump’s chaos and a warning sign to all Republican politicians running in 2026 who continue to rubber stamp his failed economic policies.
“The DGA is incredibly proud we spent over $10.5 million in this highly competitive race to flip Virginia from red to blue, and we look forward to working with Governor-elect Spanberger as she always puts Virginia first.”
The DGA was the largest outside spender in this race, investing over $10 million in Virginia this year. That included an early $5 million commitment, which allowed the Spanberger campaign to dominate paid communications and ensure the core contrast in this race would be Abigail Spanberger’s record of service and plans to lower costs vs. Winsome Sears’ refusal to stand up to Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s jobs and health care.
