DGA Statement on Ed FitzGerald's Nomination for Governor of Ohio
WASHINGTON, DC—Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, tonight issued the following statement regarding Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald’s nomination for governor of Ohio:
“Oh behalf of all Democratic governors, I would like to congratulate Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald for winning the Democratic nomination for governor of Ohio. As an FBI agent and county executive, Ed’s career has been defined by rooting out corruption, restoring integrity in government, and promoting policies that strengthen the middle class and expand economic opportunity.
“Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Governor Kasich. While he claims to have spurred some kind of economic turnaround, the middle class isn’t feeling it because he’s raised middle class taxes and gutted investments in education and public safety in order to shower the wealthiest and well-connected with tax breaks and special deals. And he’s done it all while attacking women’s health care rights, suppressing the sacred right to vote, and launching a direct assault on Ohio’s workers. Voters will punish him for all of it in November.”
