Today, Democratic Governors Association Communications Director Sam Newton released the following statement as President Donald Trump prepares to halt nearly all federal grant and loan payments, effectively cutting off funding, including for critical health care, education, disaster recovery, and food programs:
“Donald Trump’s extreme and reckless funding freeze will have devastating impacts on families, businesses, and communities across the country — including threatening health care for millions and denying crucial support to seniors in need and the veterans who have served our nation. As Democratic governors work to support the residents of their states, every Republican governor and candidate for governor must tell voters in their state whether they agree with Trump’s dangerous decision to choke off funding for the vital programs Americans rely on.”
