DGA Statement on Donald Trump’s Attacks on Public Schools

Today, Democratic Governors Association National Press Secretary Devon Cruz released the following statement after President Donald Trump signed an executive order attacking public schools, and threatening to strip their funding:

“Donald Trump’s attacks on public schools and his threats to rip away their funding are deeply out of step with families across the country and will directly hurt students, parents, teachers, and school support staff.Meanwhile, Democratic governors are actually improving education and making life better for Americans by funding schools, raising teacher pay, expanding literacy and tutoring opportunities, and providing free school meals. That’s been a winning issue for Democratic governors in tough races across the country – from North Carolina and Kentucky to Kansas, Michigan and Wisconsin – and Republicans running for governor will have to answer whether they support these top-down attacks that hurt local schools and try to pit parents against teachers.”
