DGA Statement on Bill McSwain’s Entrance to Pennsylvania Governor’s Race
Today, former Trump appointee Bill McSwain announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor of Pennsylvania, joining a crowded field of far-right Trump loyalists.
Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement:
“Just like the rest of the crowded field in the Republican primary, Bill McSwain is a right-wing politician who cares more about becoming Trump’s next apprentice — no matter the cost to Pennsylvania families. Even though he didn’t charge a single case of voter fraud in the 2020 election, McSwain’s now refusing to answer questions about the legitimacy of the 2020 election — and he wrote a secret letter to Donald Trump that repeated the same dangerous lies that led to the deadly insurrection on January 6th. “As a Trump appointee, McSwain is also known for spending more than $75,000 in taxpayer dollars to plaster his face on billboards to promote himself, while he’s since opposed vital COVID and economic relief and demonized teachers who were concerned about their safety during the pandemic. “While McSwain hides, the only thing he’s making clear is that the ongoing PA GOP primary is going to be divisive and filled with even more unpopular Pro-Trump loyalty tests.”
