DGA Statement on Beto O’Rourke’s Primary Victory in Texas

Tonight, DGA Chair and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper released the following statement on Beto O’Rourke securing the Democratic nomination for governor of Texas:

“Congratulations to Beto O’Rourke on winning the Democratic nomination for governor in Texas. When Texas faced times of crisis, Beto stepped up to provide steady, empathetic leadership when the Governor didn’t.

“Texans are fed up with Gov. Greg Abbott’s attacks on the right to vote, the right for women to make decisions about their own reproductive health care, and the right to have power in their own homes. They deserve a governor who puts their interests first, and in his long career of fighting tirelessly for Texans, Beto O’Rourke has done exactly that. 

“Beto has built an energetic, people-powered movement focused on fixing the power grid, funding a world-class education system, and expanding access to affordable health care. We look forward to supporting Beto O’Rourke as he fights for a Texas government that serves all Texans — not just the powerful and well-connected.”
