DGA Statement Calling on Republicans to Refuse Political Contributions from Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein
A new report shows Republican mega-donors Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein contributed millions of dollars to the Tea Party Patriots, one of the groups responsible for last week’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Leaders of the Tea Party Patriots spread election disinformation leading up to the planned “Stop the Steal” rally.
The Uihleins have donated millions of dollars to Republican candidates and committees over the years.
DGA Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement:
“We knew elected Republicans participated in the January 6 assault on the Capitol. Now we learn Republican mega-donors provided significant funding for the coordination of the rally that led to an insurrection.
“It is no longer tolerable for Republican leaders to remain silent about the members of their party involved in this mob – whether it is elected officials, donors, or RAGA.
“As more facts come out about the heinous riot at the Capitol, it becomes clearer that this was a coordinated assault on our democratic institutions. The Uihlein’s funding makes them complicit.
“Any Republican organization or candidate who accepts their money is condoning their part in making the horrific events of January 6 a reality. Refusing contributions from them is the only acceptable option for those who stand on the side of our democracy.
“There continue to be threats of violence both in D.C. and our state capitols. The time to speak out and condemn this is right now.”
