DGA Releases Web Video on Bevin: ‘On the Draw’

Bevin under fire for attacking 581,000 KY seniors on Medicare as ‘on the draw’

Today, the Democratic Governors Association released a web video featuring footage of Kentucky gubernatorial nominee Matt Bevin criticizing seniors on Medicare for being “on the draw.”

The web video – entitled “On the Draw” – features Bevin’s comments from a debate on Tuesday night criticizing Medicare recipients. “On the draw” is regional “vernacular for welfare” according to a Chicago Tribune article about poverty in Kentucky.

Nearly 800,000 Kentuckians — including 581,000 Kentucky senior citizens — rely on Medicare, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

“Kentucky seniors have spent their working lives paying into Medicare,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “It’s shocking that Matt Bevin would attack seniors for receiving the Medicare that they’ve earned. One thing is clear: the 581,000 Kentucky seniors who receive Medicare just can’t trust Matt Bevin to look out for them.”
