DGA Releases Statement on Alleged Second Plot Against Gov. Ralph Northam
Today, an FBI agent testified that the men who planned to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also discussed “taking out” Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam. This news comes after months of vitriolic comments hurled at both governors by President Trump.
DGA Chair New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy released the following statement:
“This new development is extremely disturbing, and we are grateful to the FBI and Attorney General Nessel for keeping Gov. Whitmer and Gov. Northam safe. Unfortunately, this is what happens when the President gives a permission slip to extremists through hateful comments and rage-filled tweets.
“At this time in our nation’s history, with a once-in-a-century pandemic and economic crisis, it’s up to the President and his supporters to stop fanning the flames of division. Unless and until President Trump openly denounces such right-wing extremism, groups like this will continue to engage in such terrorist plots.
“Sadly, the President has continued his attacks on Gov. Whitmer after threats were made on her life. I urge Republicans to join me in denouncing right-wing extremism and condemning the President’s unfounded attacks on our colleagues.”
“Democratic governors won’t be scared by threats, and we won’t back down. We will continue to do the right thing for the people we represent.”
