DGA Releases New Video, “Profiteering Off a Pandemic”

Today, the Democratic Governors Association released a new video, “Profiteering Off a Pandemic.”
As the CDC warned of a looming public health catastrophe, GOP gubernatorial candidate Rep. Greg Gianforte, the richest member of Congress who constantly touts his business acumen, downplayed the threat of the coronavirus, telling Montanans they should “stay the course” on their investments. Gianforte, however, played by a different set of rules and made hundreds of trades investing up to $4.5 million in companies set to profit from the pandemic. 
Now Gianforte is using his pandemic profits in an attempt to buy votes. He’s already loaned his gubernatorial campaign just over $1 million to run TV ads obscuring his record.
“While public health officials warned of a looming crisis, Greg Gianforte downplayed the threat of the crisis to Montanans all while making hundreds of financial transactions for himself,” said DGA National Press Secretary Jerusalem Demsas. “Gianforte isn’t using his position in Congress to advocate for Montanans, all he cares about is continuing to enrich himself. After wildly misleading his constituents, he’s now spending his fortune on obscuring his record. To Gianforte, this crisis isn’t about protecting public health – it’s an investment opportunity.”
