DGA Reboots GovTrumpTracker.com After Weekend of Governors Deserting Trump

9 GOP govs now oppose Donald Trump; 21 govs still standing by

Following a parade of Republican governors who publicly renounced Donald Trump this weekend, the Democratic Governors Association has launched the latest update to the ongoing GovTrumpTracker.com project.

After Trump’s comments condoning sexual assault were revealed on Friday, a group of 7 new GOP governors – including Republican Governors Association Chair Susana Martinez – have publicly revoked their support for Trump’s campaign. The shift now brings the total number of Republican governors opposed to Donald Trump up to 9.

However, despite the movement of the newly announced Trump defectors, 21 GOP governors continue to stand by their endorsement of Donald Trump for president, even after he was caught bragging about sexually assaulting women.

Among those still supporting Trump are North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory – this cycle’s most vulnerable governor – as well as other 2016 GOP gubernatorial candidates such as Chris Sununu in New Hampshire, Eric Greitens in Missouri, Eric Holcomb in Indiana, and Greg Gianforte in Montana and Bill Cole in West Virginia.   

“Republican governors and candidates are scurrying to escape the damage caused by Donald Trump’s candidacy,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “But a majority of GOP governors and candidates running in 2016 are still backing Trump. History will remember those who stood up to Donald Trump and those who stood by Trump’s side. This revamped GovTrumpTracker.com will allow voters to find out where their governors and candidates stand on Donald Trump’s offensive campaign.” 

The DGA’s GovTrumpTracker.com has allowed voters to track where Republican governors and candidates stand on Donald Trump for president as his campaign careens from scandal to scandal.

SUPPORTS TRUMP (7): 2016 GOP gubernatorial candidates still supporting Donald Trump include Gov. Pat McCrory (R-NC), Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-IN), Executive Councilor Chris Sununu (R-NH), former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens (R-MO), businessman Greg Gianforte (R-MT), State Sen. Bill Cole (R-WV), and State Sen. Colin Bonini (R-DE).

OPPOSES TRUMP (3): 2016 GOP gubernatorial candidates opposing Trump, include Lt. Gov. Phil Scott (R-VT), physician Bud Pierce (R-OR), and former Seattle Port Commissioner Bill Bryant (R-WA).
