DGA, In Partnership With Fair Fight, Launches “Every State, Every Vote” Initiative Ahead of 2020 Election

Today, the Democratic Governors Association, in partnership with Fair Fight, launched Every State, Every Vote, a new comprehensive initiative to bring together state efforts around voter protection, voting access, redistricting, and the 2020 census.
The initiative will be co-chaired by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Founder of Fair Fight Stacey Abrams and will focus on the attacks Republicans are waging on our democracy and the critical role Democratic governors and Democratic candidates play in pushing back.
“I am proud to co-chair Every State, Every Vote with Stacey Abrams because protecting voting rights and voting access is one of the most important jobs a governor holds when she takes office,” said Every State, Every Vote Co-Chair Gov. Kate Brown. “From the time I served as Oregon Secretary of State to my almost five years as governor, I have pushed to make it easier for Oregonians to vote. I am proud our state has been ranked first in the nation in ease of voting but we can’t stop there. Every State, Every Vote will be a powerful initiative with Fair Fight so fair representation and fair elections will be the norm across the country.”  
“I am thrilled, along with Fair Fight, to be joining forces with the Democratic Governors Association to launch Every State, Every Vote,” said Fair Fight Founder and Every State, Every Vote Co-Chair Stacey Abrams. “Efforts to discourage and suppress voters—in voter registration, ballot access, or counting of votes—threaten our democracy and hold us back from the progress we seek. Through Every State, Every Vote, we will help to put more Democrats in governors’ offices and highlight the great work of Democratic governors to protect democracy. Our right to vote is our most fundamental right and I am proud to stand with the Democratic Governors Association to protect it.”
“Democratic governors can be the strongest check against Republican efforts to suppress the right to vote and the strongest advocate for a progressive agenda that expands it,” said DGA Chair Gov. Phil Murphy. “Every State, Every Vote recognizes that Democratic governors in the states are essential for Americans’ rights to be counted and heard. Heading into 2020, this partnership with Fair Fight is critical to ensure that Democratic governors and Democratic candidates can have the tools they need so every American citizen can exercise their right to vote.”
“I am proud to launch Every State, Every Vote, an initiative of the Democratic Governors Association, in partnership with Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight,” said former DGA Chair Gov. Gina Raimondo. “Americans’ voice in the democratic process is under attack by Republicans curtailing access to the ballot box and purposely seeking to undercount and under-represent key voting blocs. Every State, Every Vote, in partnership with Fair Fight, will bring voter protection, voting access, redistricting, and the 2020 census efforts into one initiative to draw attention to what’s at stake in 2020 and beyond.”
The DGA is launching Every State, Every Vote because this country is in the middle of an all-out war on voting rights and fair representation and each battle will be won or lost in the governor’s office. By bringing together the power and the resources of the DGA, the Democratic governors we represent, and the support of Fair Fight, Every State, Every Vote will be a powerful tool to make sure Democratic governors can keep fighting for every voice to be heard and every vote counted in every state in the nation.
