DGA Chair Shumlin Applauds Governor Malloy for Raising Connecticut’s Minimum Wage
Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, today issued the following statement regarding Governor Dan Malloy signing the bill that will raise Connecticut’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour:
“On behalf of our fellow Democratic governors, I’d like to congratulate Governor Malloy for his extraordinary leadership in raising Connecticut’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. As we made clear when we stood with President Obama in the state earlier this month, no American who works full-time should be forced to live in poverty. In fact, it is the defining mission of Democratic governors to strengthen the middle class by raising wages and expanding economic opportunity. Governor Malloy’s action today proves that we will lead and deliver toward that goal.
“Unfortunately, Republican governors remain wedded to a failed economic philosophy that demands massive tax breaks and special deals for the wealthiest and corporations at the expense of the middle class and investments in education. That’s why they all stand opposed to raising wages for working people. They are on the wrong side of the people of their states on this critical issue and will be punished for it in November.”
