DGA Chair Laura Kelly Statement on Enactment of Republican’s Extreme Budget Bill
In response to Donald Trump and Republicans’ extreme budget that cuts Medicaid and SNAP while exploding the national deficit, Democratic Governors Association Chair Kansas Governor Laura Kelly released the following statement:
“Today, Donald Trump enacted the most devastating piece of legislation that Americans have witnessed in generations. It will rip away health care for over 17 million Americans, throw seniors out of nursing homes, and kill good-paying jobs while forcing kids to go hungry and exploding the national deficit. Rural towns will be hit especially hard with hospital closures, jobs lost, and small businesses shuttered – all to give huge handouts to the wealthy.
“As this Administration and Republican-led Congress devastate communities across the country, it is more important than ever to elect Democratic governors who are focused on improving the lives of working families, including in Virginia and New Jersey where we have competitive elections this year. We’re going to make sure voters reject these extreme cuts to health care and food assistance and reject the Republican candidates for governor who support them at the ballot box.”
