DGA Chair Inslee Statement on GOP Governors Backing New Damaging Health Care Repeal Proposal
Today, Democratic Governors Association Chair Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) released the following statement on Republican Governors Matt Bevin (R-KY) and Phil Bryant (R-MS) joining D.C. Republicans in rolling out a new attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act, in an event today in Washington, D.C.:
“As Yogi Berra said, it’s ‘deja vu all over again,’” said Gov. Inslee. “Republicans in Washington are offering up the same warmed-over garbage that the American people soundly rejected last year. Just like previous failed Republican health care bills, this repeal proposal would gut protections for people with preexisting conditions, jack up premiums, and take away health care from millions of people in our states.
“This plan is the latest Republican-led effort to sabotage our states’ health insurance markets and harm our citizens’ ability to get affordable healthcare. It threatens to once again put healthcare out of reach for millions of sick patients and low-income families, while bringing back age discrimination and annual and lifetime limits on care. We urge Congress to reject this disastrous new attack on middle-class families.
“Every day, Democratic governors are working to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for families in our states. We stand ready and willing to work with policymakers in Washington, D.C., on bipartisan solutions to bring down healthcare costs for everyone. This latest proposal would only increase costs on hard-working families and must be stopped.”
