DGA Chair Governor Laura Kelly Statement on the Attack on Governor Josh Shapiro’s Home
Chair of the Democratic Governors Association Kansas Governor Laura Kelly released the following statement in response to the attack on Governor Josh Shapiro’s home last night:
“I am relieved to hear that my colleague Governor Josh Shapiro and his family are safe and unharmed after the Pennsylvania’s Governor’s Residence was attacked last night. Law enforcement has taken a suspect into custody and while they continue their investigation, one thing is clear: acts of violence and the targeting of public officials have no place in our country.
“While the motive behind this horrific act remains unknown, it is deeply disturbing that it occurred just hours after the governor and his family welcomed loved ones into their home to celebrate the first night of Passover — and should go without saying that Jewish Americans should not live in fear as they proudly observe their faith.
“Thank you to the first responders and brave members of Pennsylvania law enforcement who, as always, ran towards danger to keep us safe. We remain ever thankful for their swift and courageous action.
“I, alongside our nation’s Democratic Governors and the Democratic Governors Association, stand in support of Governor Shapiro as we seek answers and justice for his family.”
