DGA Calls on Pawlenty and Johnson to Rescind Lewis Endorsement

Latest News

Jason Lewis, established sexist, apparently can count on support from Pawlenty and Johnson

In the wake of CNN unearthing recordings from Rep. Jason Lewis’ radio show littered with misogynistic comments, Pawlenty and Johnson should denounce and rescind their endorsements of Lewis. Lewis, who touts endorsements from both Pawlenty and Johnson on his campaign website, discussed in 2012 how he yearned for the days of calling women “sluts.”
Despite knowing these comments existed and having full awareness that Lewis peddled in utter contempt of women, Pawlenty and Johnson both made the decision to endorse him in 2016. To this day, both men are featured prominently as endorsements on the Jason Lewis site.
Here’s what they had to say about their buddy Jason Lewis when they endorsed him.
“I have known Jason a long time. He will be a strong voice for our district and he will help reduce wasteful spending and hold government accountable”- Tim Pawlenty
“For those of us who desire our congressional representatives to focus on ideas and substance rather than rhetoric and politics, Jason’s the guy. I enthusiastically support his candidacy for Minnesota’s 2nd district. For those of us who desire our congressional representatives to focus on ideas and substance rather than rhetoric and politics, Jason’s the guy. I enthusiastically support his candidacy for Minnesota’s 2nd district” –Jeff Johnson
“It should be beyond belief Tim Pawlenty and Jeff Johnson would lend their names to such a despicable person,” says Democratic Governors Association Deputy Communications Director David Turner. “But the sad truth is that supporting this kind of demeaning rhetoric is now par for the course for the 2018 GOP. If either man had a bit of decency they would look into themselves and question why they extended their support to Jason Lewis in the first place. It’s time for them to publicly denounce Lewis and rescind their endorsements.”
