DGA Calls on Kim Reynolds to Fire Steve King from Reynolds Campaign
National Democrats and National Republicans Agree on King; Why Is Iowa’s Governor Silent?
Today, the Democratic Governors Association joined the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee Chair in condemning Rep. Steve King’s rhetoric and association with white nationalist groups. The DGA called on Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds to follow suit and fire Steve King from his role as Reynolds’ campaign co-chair.
Today the head of the NRCC, U.S. Rep Steve Stivers (R-OH), condemned King as “completely inappropriate,” saying “we must stand up against white supremacy and hate in all forms.” Businesses have also withdrawn their support for him. But Gov. Reynolds still stands by him.
When Reynolds hired King as co-chairman of her campaign she glowingly praised him as “principled” noting that “you never have to question where he stands.”
The Quad City Times editorial board criticized her for sticking by King as the co-chairman of her campaign, called the decision a “tacit endorsement of his vile hate speech.”
Since then nothing has changed. King has doubled down on his denigrating comments of immigrants even endorsing a literal neo-Nazi running in Canada.
“Governor Reynolds should immediately fire Steve King from her campaign,” said DGA Press Secretary Melissa Miller. “Why won’t Reynolds join national Republicans in standing up to Rep. King’s offensive actions and rhetoric? Kim Reynolds was right–you never have to question where Steve King stands: He stands with white nationalist extremists.”
