Fung Campaign Leader Called Parkland Survivor a ‘Dummy’

The DGA is calling on Mayor Allan Fung to remove Michael Chippendale, Fung’s Foster Town Chair, from his gubernatorial campaign after Chippendale insulted Emma Gonzalez, a survivor of the Parkland High School shooting. Chippendale wrote to Gonzalez on Twitter, “But if he DID have a gun – the police still wouldn’t be searching for the gunman, and the entire region wouldn’t be on lockdown… dummy.” When asked yesterday, Fung’s campaign refused to remove him from the campaign or call on him to step down.
“Allan Fung should immediately remove Michael Chippendale from his campaign,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Mayor Fung should not condone insulting a mass shooting survivor and calling her names. Fung’s refusal to remove Chippendale is telling of his priorities—priorities that are out of step with the people of Rhode Island who want common sense solutions to prevent gun violence.”
This is not the first problem Mayor Fung has had with his campaign town chairs. Just last month, it was reported that his Providence campaign chair had been arrested for domestic violence in 2015.
