DGA-Backed Group Making Michigan’s Future Releases New Ad on John James’ Record of Profiting Off of Data Center Companies

Making Michigan’s Future, a group backed by the Democratic Governors Association, launched the ad “Worry” that calls out John James’ record of making money off of data center companies while voting to give them tax breaks – all while Michiganders continue to pay higher costs.

This is the latest ad airing on TV as part of a seven-figure statewide buy that also includes streaming and digital platforms. It features a Michigan mom named Hannah N. talking about how James made money from his investments in companies that build data centers, voted in Congress to give data center companies billions in tax breaks, and voted against letting local communities regulate data centers.

You can watch the ad here and read the transcript below:

“Worry”

All these data centers popping up, it’s taking away our water, it raises utility bills.

But in Congress, John James bought and sold stock in the companies that build these data centers, which means he is making money off of them.

James voted to give those data center companies billions in tax breaks.

He voted to ban local communities from any regulations of data centers at all.

He’s gambling with my kids’ futures.

It’s extremely dangerous.

John James is looking out for himself, not for Michigan.
